On November 23rd, our Girls Only Adventure Trips crew ventured out to Frary Peak, the highest point on Antelope Island. Despite the chill (and wind!) in the air, the promise of stunning views and good company made it an adventure to remember. Here’s a recap of our day!
Starting Strong
We kicked off bright and early, arriving at our nearby carpool location to meet & greet each other before heading out on our adventure. We entered Antelope Island as the first light painted the Great Salt Lake with soft pinks and golds. After a quick round of introductions, we began the ascent up the Frary Peak Trail.
The trail greeted us with its classic steep inclines and rocky terrain. But with every step, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the lake, the Wasatch Range, and the island’s rugged beauty.
Wildlife Encounters
Antelope Island is known for its wildlife, and this hike didn’t disappoint! Along the way, we spotted a herd of bison grazing in the distance and even caught sight of a curious deer in the distance. We heard there were goats nearby, but unfortunately, we never saw them. Birds flitted through the crisp air, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience.
The Summit Experience
Reaching the summit of Frary Peak felt like a triumph, especially traversing over the last stretch of snow and ice. Standing at 6,596 feet, we soaked in breathtaking 360-degree views that stretched across the Great Salt Lake and beyond. A few of us snapped group photos to capture the moment, while others simply took a quiet moment to appreciate the serene beauty. We took in the scenery with our delicious bagel sandwiches from Einstein Bro’s Bagels.
Shared Moments
As always, the best part of the day was the camaraderie. We shared snacks, laughs, and stories along the trail, turning strangers into friends. The collective encouragement as we tackled the tougher sections of the hike was a reminder of why we do this—to lift each other up and share in the joy of the outdoors.
Finishing Strong
The descent offered a fresh perspective of the trail, with the afternoon light casting a warm glow on the landscape. By the time we reached the trailhead, we were tired but fulfilled, already reminiscing about the day’s highlights.
