December brought a touch of magic to our Local GOAT pop-up hike at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up the year! With crisp air, stunning natural scenery, and a fantastic group of adventurers, it was an outing to remember.
A Morning of Connection and Exploration
We kicked off the hike with warm introductions and shared excitement. Our group of nature enthusiasts ranged from seasoned hikers to first-timers, united by a love of the outdoors. After a quick overview of the trail, we set out on the well-maintained paths of Arbor Hills.
The preserve offered us a blend of picturesque trails and open spaces, with the winter landscape adding its own charm. Bare branches silhouetted against the bright sky, the sound of rustling leaves, and the occasional sightings of local wildlife made the hike a sensory delight. The peacefulness of the surroundings created the perfect backdrop for reflection and connection.
Highlight of the Day
One of the standout moments was reaching the scenic overlook. The panoramic view of the Dallas skyline contrasted beautifully with the natural beauty around us, serving as a reminder of how nature and urban life coexist. This spot turned into a mini-photo session as we captured memories to treasure.

Wrapping Up 2024 on a High Note
As we gathered back at the trailhead, there was a shared sense of accomplishment and gratitude. We ended with group photos, hugs, and plans to meet again for future adventures. In addition, we closed out the event with special Christmas cookies from Mapleton Baking Co – the cookies were a huge hit. This hike was not just about exploring the trails but also about celebrating the community we’ve built through our Local GOAT events.
